Don't Worry!
FourthMan's Theatre Company will on Sunday 6th July, 2008 stage a play
by Ola kris titled “Hakuna Matata” which is Swahili for 'Don't Worry'.
According to Ola Kris, the title came about from the theatre group's
desire to have an African acceptance for the play especially when they
begin a tour of other African states. It is his hope that someday,
Swahili or Yoruba will become global languages just as French or
English. The play itself has a central theme set upon finding the
knowledge of truth and it is in this knowledge that man can be truly
free. The play will be held at Agip Hall, Muson center, Lagos.
The organisers are being supported by Daystar, L.A.B.I.S.I Heritage,
ZMirage, Grace Family Church, Minds & Brains Ltd. There will be two
showings at 3pm and 5pm and the gate fee is =N=2,000.
Ghetto Life Reality
One of the 'Oshogbo artists' Femi Johnson will
on Saturday 5th, roll out his solo exhibition titled
“Metamorphosis'. It will be an exhibition of Yoruba culture and
heritage. His works will be on display at Alliance Francaise, Ruxton
road, Ikoyi Lagos.
Goethe-Institut Lagos and The Crown Troupe of Africa will premiere a
performance titled 'Omo Dumping on Saturday 12th July, 2008 at 4pm.
Uncontrolled urbanisation and the demise of rural life set the
background for this multi dimensional performance by the well-known
contemporary dance ensemble. 'Omo Dumping meaning poor people in the
Lagos ghettos who live on leftovers dumped on the refuse heap sites is
a fusion of dance, installation and photography. These visual elements
will be accompanied by poetry, as well as live and recorded music in
order to create a performance that transcends all areas of arts. This
multidimensional approach of the artists reflect the multi-faceted
reality of the mega city. 'Omo Dumping' addresses a serious topic, but
not without a hint of humour.
