New Compact SUV To Replace Toyota's RAV4New Compact SUV To Replace Toyota's RAV4
The Toyota stand at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show gave a clear insight into
company's model planning strategy for the near future including this
cute little SUV concept called the Urban Cruiser.
It's a design preview of a new model scheduled for European release in
the first half of 2009; there on plans at present, however, to bring it
to South Africa.
The Urban Cruiser will compete in the compact SUV market, a segment
that has virtually doubled in size in Europe since 2002; it's aimed at
satisfying consumer needs for an SUV-type vehicle with low fuel bills
and low emissions.
It's the latest in a long line of Toyota compact SUVs, going back to
the original RAV4 of 1994, and will fill the gap left when the
three-door RAV4 was discontinued.
The Urban Cruiser has five doors but Toyota hopes its compact
dimensions (3.93m long, 1.725m wide and 1.54m high), efficient
packaging, practicality, and all-wheel drive transmission will endear
it to buyers looking to replace the three-door RAV4.
The styling follows Toyota's Vibrant Clarity design philosophy, a
design language based on the perfect imbalance of proportions, that it
says gives the Urban Cruiser "an athletic stance on the road combined
with urban sophistication.”
