Airport Police Arrest Fake Travel Documents Agents

The Police Command at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos has arrested gangs who specialised in faking travel documents and duping innocent travellers of  huge sum of money.
Narrating the command's series of arrests in a media briefing in Lagos, the Commissioner of Police of the Command, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, stated that on October 14, 2008, Messrs Isiaka Afolabi and Gbenga Tejuoso fell victims to the duo of Adetokunbo Adegbada and Rotimi Oyerongbe who falsely presented themselves as travel agents to the unsuspecting victims who paid  N996,000.00 and N335,500.00 respectively to the suspects.
According to him, the fraudsters eventually handed over fake travel documents and fake $1,600 notes procured in Lagos to the victims who believing same to be genuine went to the airport to travel with them before the cat was let out of the bag.
Adegbada in his confession admitted the offence, disclosing that he had been in the business for the past seven years, but he exonerated Rotimi of the offence, saying that he is a friend who only accompanied him to the Airport and was arrested along with him.
In another development, Argungu said that a syndicate that specialises in faking Afriquyah Airline Travel tickets was uncovered and investigation so far revealed that staffers of the Airline are involved either by omission or commission.
He disclosed that so far a total of seven tickets from Lagos to London and two tickets from Lagos to Germany via Tripoli were discovered to be fake even when the passengers had travelled with such fake tickets.
Continuing, the Police Commissioner said that on October 19, 2008, Messrs Daniel Emecho, Raphael Anorie and Stan Alonge were arrested with fake Arik Air tickets and boarding pass. He explained that Stan Alonge, a ground operation officer of the Airline procured the documents.
In his explanation, the Chief Security Officer of Arik Air, Mr. Francis Okafor, said that the ticket routed to Port Harcourt was procured by Trans Ocean Company but resold to somebody at N18,000. “However, this ticket was discovered on the new passenger during boarding and he was turned back.”
Still in another development, one Bashiru Bala, who operates illegal Bureau De Change was also arrested on October19, 2008 at the Airport's car park with   N489,000 and $890,000.
Argungu stated that all the suspects would soon be arraigned in  court.
