Police Arrest Five Over Murder Of 16-Year-Old Boy In Enugu

Five members of a vigilante group in Obollo-Afor, Udenu local government area of Enugu State have been arrested by the state police command for allegedly killing a 16-year-old boy, Ikechukwu Ogbu.
Members of the vigilante group led by Mr. Obetta Benjamin (Alias son of man) reportedly arrested and detained Ogbu along with others over misunderstanding on   cell phone.
Investigations by the police showed  that Ogbu  was allegedly  shot by members of  the  vigilante group   for failing to provide  a  carton of beer and N1,000  as  bail condition.
National Mirror was told that   after arresting Ogbu and   four other boys, the vigilante group     detained them, and later judged them guilty

Ogbu  who could not  meet the bail condition  had pleaded for time to do something,  when the leader of the vigilante  group,  Mr Obetta, was said to have  picked a pump action gun  and ordered one of the boys to shoot  the deceased on the leg which he did.
However, the action of the vigilante group was said to have attracted a crowd who protested against the development.
On noticing the tension, the leader of the group, Mr Obetta was said to have reported the matter to the police who came and arrested   Ogbu and others   accusing them of robbery.

A close relation of Ogbu, Mr Ikechukwu Ugwu who described the deceased as a poor innocent orphan who cannot hurt a fly said he was killed because  members of the vigilante group felt nobody will fight for him.
Ugwu said that he is determined   with members of his family to see to the end of the case, by making sure that the killers were brought to book

In a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Messrs Chukwuma Johnson and Ogbonna St. John of Obollo Youths General Assembly called on the Police Commissioner to save the people of Obollo from the growing crime that has continued to take place in the area.

The youth group accused the vigilante group of taking laws into their hands in the pretext of fighting crime, adding that all those who were accused of the murder of Ogbu should not be left unpunished.
