Oyo State Government has deployed 20 skip bins along Ogunpa River
embankment as part of effort towards proffering permanent solution to
the problem of flood and filth along the river embankment.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Alhaji
Majekodunmi Aborode, disclosed this in Ibadan while briefing the media
at the end of the state executive council meeting.
According to the commissioner, the deployment of the skip bins which
commences recently was to enable the government embark on proper
enforcement of environment laws and regulations.
Also briefing the media, the state Commissioner for Industry, Applied
Science and Technology Alhaji Mohammed Lawal said that council had
received the report of a committee on Bodija market abattoir and has
directed the chairman of Ibadan North Local Government to perform its
statutory function over deplorable condition of the abattoir.
He said that the government may consider the involvement of a private
investors in an effort to find lasting solution to the appalling
condition at the Bodija market abattoir and that the local government
may be asked to hands off activities within the market if it failed to
provide unimpeded access road, regular water supply, adequate drainage
and conveniences within the market.
The commissioner expressed government concern on the problems faced by
residents along the Ibadan Lagos Expressway at Olorunsogo as a result
of flood disaster in the area, adding that the State Governor Otunba
Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has approved fund for the proper
channelisation of drainage in the area.
