Lagos Committed To Road Maintenance —Johnson
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Works and
Infrastructure, Engr Ganiyu Johnson disclosed that Lagos State
Government will continue to implement its all year round road
maintenance programme irrespective of the condition of the weather in
the state.
He explained that irrespective of the rains, the state government will
continue to maintain these roads, in order to prevent any form of road
failure in the state.
Johnson further stated that “due to the age of these roads, a high
water level or riverine nature of Lagos soil, they cannot but be
maintained, in order ensure free vehicular movement in the state.”
All over the world, road construction works are greatly reduced during
the rainy season, this notwithstanding however, the Ministry of Works
and Infrastructure has continued to make use of special mix of
materials consisting of crushed stones, cement etc to fill and
rehabilitate potholes as remedial measures on some roads in the State,
in order to stabilize them and further make them motorable.
He stressed that some roads were patched with the use of quick patch
bituminous materials depending on the extent of potholes, these
materials are substitutes for asphalt premix during rainy season
especially when there is scarcity of bitumen for the production of
asphalt.
Some of the Roads that have been maintained during the rains include;
Alagbole/Odozi road, Emmamuel Street, Maryland, Ogunmokun junction
(Baba Olosa), Baale by Boundary Ajegunle, Jibowu by railway line,
Olowora road, Isheri , Alhaji kosoko road, Ojodu . Others are Isolo
road which is on going, Asabi Cole CBD Ikeja, part of Ijaiye / Ogba
road, Toyin Street and Akilo road.
Johnson however assured Lagosians, that immediately after the rains or
middle of this month, the State Government will aggressively continue
all it's on going road projects as well as ensures that all roads in a
bad condition are rehabilitated.
