Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has assured neighbours of the collapsed Bank of Industry BoI building on Broad Street, Lagos Island that the current demolition of the structure by his government will be met with minimal damage to surrounding structures.
Members of the vigilante group led by Mr. Obetta Benjamin (Alias son of man) reportedly arrested and detained Ogbu along with others over misunderstanding on cell phone.
Investigations by the police showed that Ogbu was allegedly shot by members of the vigilante group for failing to provide a carton of beer and N1,000 as bail condition.
National Mirror was told that after arresting Ogbu and four other boys, the vigilante group detained them, and later judged them guilty
Ogbu who could not meet the bail condition had pleaded for time to do something, when the leader of the vigilante group, Mr Obetta, was said to have picked a pump action gun and ordered one of the boys to shoot the deceased on the leg which he did.
However, the action of the vigilante group was said to have attracted a crowd who protested against the development.
On noticing the tension, the leader of the group, Mr Obetta was said to have reported the matter to the police who came and arrested Ogbu and others accusing them of robbery.
A close relation of Ogbu, Mr Ikechukwu Ugwu who described the deceased as a poor innocent orphan who cannot hurt a fly said he was killed because members of the vigilante group felt nobody will fight for him.
Ugwu said that he is determined with members of his family to see to the end of the case, by making sure that the killers were brought to book
In a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Messrs Chukwuma Johnson and Ogbonna St. John of Obollo Youths General Assembly called on the Police Commissioner to save the people of Obollo from the growing crime that has continued to take place in the area.
The youth group accused the vigilante group of taking laws into their hands in the pretext of fighting crime, adding that all those who were accused of the murder of Ogbu should not be left unpunished.
