‘Why Nigerians Don't Patronise Event Managers’

‘Why Nigerians Don't Patronise Event Managers’

The Chief Executive Officer of BIEN-ETRE Concepts, Boyejo Tosin has pointed out  reasons why most Nigerians don’t contract event  management outfits to organize their events. In this interview with OLAOLU OLAOYE, Tosin who is also a final year student of Lagos State University (LASU) said the attitude is borne out of ignorance ofthe importance of event managers. He said company executives always sidelined professionals by giving such jobs to their relatives who may not have the required skills to manage  them. Excerpts:

What is Bien-Etre Concept  all about?
It is an event management planning outfit. It is borne out of the need for the event management to be filled with more ideas and creativity. The outfit is poised to giving the people the reflection of their own dream in terms of event.
We bring the touch of personality to ones event. In a nutshell, it goes beyond just packaging and managing your event but also add glamour to it.
Why did you give it  a French name?
We decided to choose the name because it is a reflection of what we practice and offer the society. It simply means creating a feeling of a wellbeing at your event.
What is the vision behind  it?
My vision is to make it one of the best event Management outfits in Nigeria. My dream is to be an entrepreneur and employer of labour.
How do you intend to achieve this?
It would be easy for me to be on top  through the strength of God and by dint of handwork. Also the strategy is to live up to the expectation and dream of my clients. What I mean is to make them happy by creating an atmosphere that would make their events memorable. To cut the story short, I have done a critical study and discovered that there are other things still needed to be brought into this kind of business. One of the reasons I decided to be on my own is to let it have the touch of professionalism in a dimensional way.
You said you want it to be one of the best in the country, ,have you been able to achieve  this?
All glory be to God, we are making marks. We have done series of packaging and managing event for some companies. As a matter of fact, we will not rest on laurel until success is achieved. I know that Rome was not built in a day. With time, and with God on our side, the sky would be the limit of BIEN-ETRE.
Your challenges?
One of the challenges is that 70% citizens of this nation has not really been exposed to the level of allowing professionals to organize, package and manage their events.
Company executives will always sideline professionals and give such jobs to their relatives  who know nothing about event management.
At the end of the day, such a programme will flops. I think we should begin to orientate this society with a view to buying the idea of using professional in this regards. I know it is just a matter of time, Nigeria will realize the importance of engaging the professional event managers.
There is competition among the event management companies in Nigeria today, what do you think will stand you out?
Thanks for the question. What will stand me out is consistency, commitment, dedication and professionalism in term of services I render to my clients. We will always stand for what we believe. Which is creativity. Creativity is the characteristic of our business. The creativity we bring into it will always pave way for us.
In the next few years where will you want your outfit to be?
As I said earlier, I want to be one of the best in this country. I want BIEN-ETRE concept event management to beat others.
How does the economy of the nation affect your business?
As it affects every sector, it also affects us. All we can say is that we urge the powers that be to wake up from their slumber and rise to their responsibility.
What is your philosophy of life?
Be courteous.  Always do good to people. And whatever you do not want people to do to you don't do it to them.
