Guards Lead Others To Burgle Warehouse

Guards Lead Others To Burgle Warehouse

By XAVIER NDAH

The role of a security guard in a company entails keeping watch to ensure that nothing is stolen from the company; but for Amusa Sikiru, a security guard, the case was different and the game is help yourself and bring down the company to naught.
Sikiru 31, married with a child from Lagos State is now in police net over an attempt by him and seven others to cart away fertilisers and chemicals worth N800,000 belonging to his company, Kupec Parco, located at Fatai Atere way, Mushin, Lagos.
Sikiru told Metro Beats how it all happened. “I am a security guard at the company. My supervisor is Mathew Chukwu. Then, one Kelvin, also a staff of the company  told me that there was a deal which he wanted us to cooperate with him. I didn't know what they intended to do. He said my head of security (Chukwu) is already aware of it and that he has agreed to the terms. I said that since he has agreed that I don't have any problem.
Kelvin came the following day after he had closed from work. He brought somebody to file (duplicate) the key of the warehouse. They tested the key and the key opened the lock  and they left. That evening, I was fast asleep at about 10pm. I woke up and saw them with my supervisor parking bags of fertilisers and some chemicals into a waiting vehicle.
I didn't say anything because we had already agreed. Mathew opened the gate for them to leave and we locked the gate and the warehouse. When they got to a point, they met some mobile policemen who stopped them for a search. I think they demanded for the waybill, but they could not provide. I heard a gun shot. It's like the driver wanted to escape. So Kelvin came back to see Mathew to come and intervene, that is, to go and settle the Mopol. The Mopol sent one of them to come and bring us , but Mathew, knowing the danger said I should go whilst he remained in the compound. I went and the Mopol sent one of them to follow us to fetch Mathew. Before I came back, Mathew and  Kelvin had ran away. I didn’t know how they managed to escape. That was how I was arrested.” He narrated.
Sikiru said he was a contract security for the company and he was being paid N9,000, adding that he regretted his role in the whole deal.
Five of the labourers who were paid for loading the goods into the truck were also arrested together with the driver of the truck.
Those arrested are Basil Labechi, 28, from Jigawa, while Hassan Hamidu, 30, Mohammed Lawal 21, Lafia Mohammed 20 and Ilia Humidu 21, are from Niger Republic.
The suspects are being detained at the Oloson Police Station in Mushin for more investigations while efforts are  geared to arrest Kelvin and Mathew. The driver of the vehicle, Basil Labechi, have this to say: “Our park is at Daleko. Kelvin came and hired us for the job . We got there about 11pm. They opened the gate and parked the goods into the vehicle and we were arrested on the way.
“To be frank, my oga did not know that I left with the vehicle because I was hired for N20,000,”  he explained.
