By VICTOR BASSEY
Indigent and physically challenged students reaped a bountiful harvest
at the Synagogue Church of All Nations Lagos last Sunday as more than
twenty of them were given scholarships to complete their education from
the first Degree to post graduate levels. The scholarship which was
worth over N3million was at the instance of Prophet Temitope Joshua,
General Overseer of the Church. Speaking to a capacity crowd, T.B.
Joshua said the essence of life was to affect the lives of people
positively. Joshua assured beneficiaries of the scholarship of his
support for them at all times. He charged them not to allow themselves
to be weighed down by circumstances of life saying that with dedication
and hard work and with support from good-hearted people, they can live
their dreams.
Prophet T.B Joshua reminded the well-placed in the society that God has
given them more than enough because there is someone who does not have
enough who must benefit from their wealth. He added that, apart from
Emmanuel TV, which covered the event, the heavens were recording it and
on the judgment day, “I will tell God that I told you” he said. The man
of God, said those who have fleet of cars in their garage should sell
some and convert the money to scholarships for the disabled, children
of widows/widowers and the needy in the society. He therefore charged
the rich to go back to their villages and consider taking
responsibility for one or two indigent students in that area.
Expressing their appreciation in separate interviews, beneficiaries
could not hide their happiness. Adegbesa Abiodun, a 36 year old post
graduate student of peace and conflict studies at the University of
Ibadan said with the financial aid, they have been greatly empowered
for greater impact. “By this scholarship, he has empowered us to be
beneficial both to ourselves and to the society. I got to know him
(T.B. Joshua) through my colleagues and when I met him, I was not
disappointed.” He enthused.
Abiodun who said he intends to go into the legislative arm of
government to initiate a bill on the rights of the disabled people in
the society prayed God to bless the prophet.
Ibeaubuchi Onyinyechi a 30 year old female post graduate student of
Economics in Abia State University Uturu not only got a scholarship for
her studies, she also was given a brand new wheelchair, having given
her own to a fellow disabled whose condition she said was worse than
her own. Shew said with the aid, she is set to reach the skies in her
academic pursuit. She had a word for her fellow disabled; “You can
still make it in life if you determine to. Nothing can stop you except
those things you allow to weigh you down.” She encouraged.
Onyinyechi who said she was attacked by polio at 7months of age wants to make a career in banking.
The beneficiaries, undergraduates and post-graduate students from all
over the country also went home with two bags of rice each and 15
thousand naira as feeding allowance for each of them apart from the
scholarship awards.
