Anichebe Aims To Impress At EvertonAnichebe Aims To Impress At EvertonVictor Anichebe has underlined his determination to make an impact for Nigeria before spearheading their Olympic campaign later this summer. Everton have accepted that the 20-year-old will be absent for the start of the Premier League season following his confirmation in the squad last month. Nigeria will pin their hopes of repeating the gold medal achievements of 1996 on Anichebe, indicated by his current involvement in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. He is the second youngest member of a squad that completed a grueling month of fixtures taking on Equatorial Guinea in their last game, attempting to make it four wins out of four. Anichebe's involvement with Nigeria was initially delayed when he considered holding out for England recognition and he admits that he has struggled to acclimatize in the heat of Africa following a long domestic season and the fact that he was just one when his parents moved to Merseyside. But the experience of playing in the current round of World Cup games has whetted his appetite for more. “I feel proud to be part of a team like this,” said Anichebe even though his first international start was not memorable after he fell straight down with his chest and had to be substituted early on against E/Guinea in Abuja. “We have a good set of boys here. We have a good team. We just need to improve, keep improving. “There are parts of our game that we need to improve, like knowing when to attack and when not to attack. “The weather is always a factor to me. I am still new to this national team and it will take me a while to adjust to the weather and the demands of playing. “I would like to improve my fitness. It has been a long season for me but hopefully if I improve my fitness you will see a lot more of me.”
