Epochi Thumps Down NIS

Epochi Thumps Down NIS

The chief coach of De Climate FC of Lagos, Sunny Epochi has blasted the organizers of the just concluded 2008 1st Tella Memorial 5-Aside Soccer Championship held at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, for not keeping their promise to the teams which took part in the competition.
Coach Epochi who spoke with our sports correspondent some moments after final contended that during the period of registration, that the organizers told the participants that the least amount to be won as prize money is N100,000 for the third placed team. On the final day, I asked the organizers,” What is the prize money that we are fighting for. They told me that they would not disclose it to me. Even the last Boska CupSoccer Championship that we won, the amount of money to be won, was disclosed to all the participating teams before the kick off. And after the match, they gave us a paltry N25,000 as runners-up. If I had known that it is the sum of N25,000 that we were fighting for, we would not have bothered  ourselves to play the championship. Does it mean that the NIS cannot budget at least N500, 000 to execute a memorial competition for Tella who had served the Institute and the Nation before his death. The organizers were even asking the teams to provide ball boys, which is not proper.
